The Social Work Department of the University of Bucharest is pleased to invite submissions for presentations at the 4th edition of the Social Work International Conference (SWIC) to be held in Bucharest between November 7th and 8th, 2019.
The conference invites social work researchers, educators and practitioners to reflect on social work’s role amid rapid societal changes: rising economic inequalities, demographic aging, increasing economic migration and its social effects, the rising number of displaced people, environmental degradation, the growth of technology, etc. Looking at the recent developments in social work at the level of policy, practice, education and research, what has been social work’s level of success (or, on the contrary, lack of success) in responding to the global socio-economic challenges of present times? In this context, what is social work’s potential for future action toward social wellbeing? What changes must social work undergo to either accommodate or oppose the socio-economic trends of our times? We welcome scientifically sound and original contributions from researchers, educators, practitioners, and students from social science in the areas listed below. Submissions can be empirical, theoretical or practice based. We accept submissions from both experienced researchers/practitioners and undergraduate, master and PhD students.
Focus areas: The streams of the conference are divided based on the 3 main areas:
1. The place and role of social work education in the 2020s and beyond
2. The place and role of social work practice in the 2020s and beyond
3. The place and role of social work research in the 2020s and beyond
