Description
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences provides an education which promotes a wide base of knowledge and develops intellectual capacities.
Through the exercise of analytical rigor in the range of disciplines it encompasses, our community of faculty members and students endeavours to do a number of things: it produces work which is aimed at resolving important social and humanitarian issues; it utilises new scientific developments, such as virtual reality, and to address puzzles in human psychology.
In particular, the Department of Social Sciences where Social Work belongs to, it offers competitive programmes in a range of sought-after areas in the disciplines of Psychology, Social Work, and Criminology. We provide an innovative education for future social workers which ensures that they will have a significant and positive impact in people’s lives, empowering individuals, families, groups and communities at large. With a modern teaching approach to contemporary psychosocial issues, you will acquire critical knowledge, skills and conceptual understanding that will enable you to become a catalyst for change in these sectors.
Originally established in 2005, the Social Work Programme has been growing steadily in terms of students and academic performance. It has been a member of European Association of Schools of Social Work executive committee since June 2017. It is also a member of the International Association of Schools of Social Work.
Many of its faculty members have been participating in editorial boards of international social work journals, are members of European forums, and they also show an extensive portfolio in research and training of professionals in the field of migration, mental health, ageing and school social work. The programme has also developed international links through the Erasmus programmes.
